YANG GALLERY team constantly travels all over the globe in search of the finest art collections to present to our collectors. This month, we packed our suitcases and arrived in Paris, France, to spend some time with the ever energetic & vibrant Master of Still Life, established artist Anton Molnar.
In a mingling of emotions and cultures, Anton Molnar portrays the atmosphere around him in the last years of the century in his paintings. With a combination of colors and written words,he makes a statement of someone with a story to tell. Mixing antique contexts with modern subjects, the times and places depicted in his works are vaguely suggested. Although, he intends every object, shade and angle play a certain role and to speak volumes to the viewer, he still maintains a mysteriousness that allows the viewer to imagine their own story and to develop a relationship with the work.
Anton Molnar was born in budapest in 1957. he received his education in art from the Art School of hungary where he obtained a full diploma in the diverse fields of painting, anatomy, history of art and fresco.
It has been commented that the artist is blessed with the gift for fusing the old epoch’s sumptuousness with the Existentialists attitude that is entirely modern. By juxtaposing modern subjects and antique contexts, Molnar creates ambiguity. The exact time and venue are never specified but are merely suggested. This elusive feeling of antiquity may be attributed to Molnar’s technique and use of colours. The irregularity in hues and textures as if he was painting on wood creates the impression of the effect of time.
Molnar comes up with exceptionally creative compo- sitions perceived from unwonted angles. In certain cases, these unusual viewpoints add to the aura of mystery surrounding Molnar’s works. he intends every object, shade and angle to play certain roles and to speak volumes. Molnar’s paintings serve as a departure point for spectators to imagine their own stories so that in the end, the viewer comes up with an independent interpretation and rapport with the work.
In 2015, Molnar held his big-scale solo exhibition in Shanghai, China at the Johnnie Walker House Shanghai.
The opening greeting was spoken by Levente Horvath General Consul of Hungary, Jeffrey Huang the director of Johnnie Walker House Shanghai and Anton Molnar, the protagonist of the evening.
