Hong Kong’s First International Sculpture Park Opens

Hong Kong’s first international sculpture park brings museum-quality works to the public, dramatically transforming the landscape of the city.

Opening at sites by the Victoria Harbour, including the Central and Western District Promenade, as well as waterfront areas beside the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Hong Kong Arts Centre in the Wan Chai district.

Harbour Arts Sculpture Park features sculptures by emerging and renowned local and international contemporary artists together – a first for the artists and the city. Curated by Fumio Nanjo, Director of Mori Art Museum and Director of International Programme at Hong Kong Art School, and Tim Marlow, Artistic Director at the Royal Academy of Arts, the free sculpture park offers a unique opportunity to experience world-class art set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline.

Cementing Hong Kong’s position as a global arts player, public and private organisations have come together to exhibit sculptures in an accessible public space. In doing so, the city is ensuring that art is accessible to everyone in Hong Kong, enriching the cultural life of the public.

The sculpture park’s first exhibition from 22/02/2018 – 11/04/2019  comprised of 19 artists, including Rasheed Araeen, Antony Gormley, Yayoi Kusama, Zhan Wang and more—several of whose artworks have previously graced Hong Kong’s public spaces.



The exhibition will be curated by Tim Marlow, artistic director of Royal Academy of Arts in London, and Fumio Nanjo, director of Tokyo’s Mori Art Museum and director of Hong Kong Art School’s international programs. The park is supported by myriad private organizations and public institutions, including the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Its partners include H Queen’s and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
