At this year’s 27th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) 2016, YANG GALLERY Singapore & Beijing 798 was exclusively invited to SGIFF to celebrate the wonderful mergence of Film & Art to present established Chinese contemporary artist He Wenjue’s ‘Watch Movie- Raise the Red Lantern’ limited edition print to grace this annual prestigious event!
He Wenjue is one of China’s most renowned contemporary artists known for his acclaimed series “Watch Movie”. He Wenjue’s intense involvement and intimate fusion with filmmaking give credence to his statement that he is the only painter in the world to systematically depict film scenes. It is one of the beautiful stories about interaction between major art forms that will enrich our lives in the following decades. Featuring prominently amongst his artwork based on Asian classic films is Raise the Red Lantern directed by legendary film director, Zhang Yimou and starring Gong Li. This lithograph is an edition of 8/10, limited to only 10 pieces in the world.
The Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) is the largest and longest-running film event in Singapore. Founded in 1987 by Geoffrey Malone and L. Leland Whitney, the Festival focuses on showcasing international films and providing a global platform for the best of Singapore cinema. Over the decades, it has grown to become an iconic date in the Singapore arts calendar. Tis year’s ‘For the Love of Cinema’ Benefit Dinner falls on the 26th of November 2016 and is one of the most anticipated gala events in the social calendar. The event is attended by some of the world’s biggest film stars, filmmaking talent and regional arts patrons, all of whom help to raise funds for the festival.
